Dr. Dan Timmer, Associate Professor of Old Testament, recently traveled twice to share his scholarly efforts. On February 24-26 Dr. Timmer attended the Lilly Theological Research Grants conference to present updates on his Lilly Grant research. Recipients of the grant also receive mentoring and advice from senior scholars for the continuation of their work at the conference. His research currently focuses on the non-Israelite nations in the Book of the Twelve and on Nahum’s response to Neo-Assyrian political and religious ideology.
On March 3-4 Dr. Timmer also traveled to Atlanta to present a paper titled "The Use and Abuse of Power in Amos: Identity, Idolatry, Idology" at the Southeast Regional Meeting of the AAR/SBL (American Academy of Religion/Society of Biblical Literature).
