Discussing the importance of cities, Harvey Conn writes, "Cities - the anvil of civilization, the center of power, the metaphor for society itself- have been with us for thousands of years. Here converge piety and trade, security and politics. Yet just two hundred years ago only 3 percent of the world's population lived in cities. Today half does." New phenomena give rise to new questions and new challenges. The unprecedented march of urbanization presents the church with serious challenges. Poverty, racism, human trafficking, and government corruption require intense theological reflection to enable Jesus' church to effectively advance in the urban context. A Biblical Theology of the City seeks to explore the importance of the city in God's purposes as well as the unique challenges relentless urbanization poses to the Christian Church. Come join us on Tuesdays from 6-8pm at Redeemer Church from January 29 - April 30. The cost is $50 to audit. If you wish to take the course for credit, you must first apply and be admitted as a student. To sign up, contact our Registrar, Kim Lee, at klee@rts.edu or 601.923.1681.
