Dr. Jerry Young has been elected President of the National Baptist Convention, USA.

Young was elected to his five-year term as President on September 4, during the 134th annual session of the National Baptist Convention held in New Orleans.  Dr. Young became the first Mississippi pastor to be chosen for the position.  He has served as the pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Jackson since 1980, and has also served for the last 12 years as Vice President At Large in the National Baptist Convention and as President of the Mississippi National Baptist Convention.

RTS Chancellor Emeritus, Dr. Ric Cannada commented, “Dr. Jerry Young is a dear brother in the Lord, a faithful pastor, and an energetic and effective leader.  I am pleased for Jerry and thrilled for the National Baptists that Jerry will be their president for the next few years.  May our Lord Jesus Christ bring great blessings on Jerry and the National Baptists and use them to be a blessing throughout our nation and beyond, all to the glory of our awesome and sovereign God.”

Dr. Young received two degrees from RTS Jackson, the MDIV in 1981 and the DMIN in 1998.  He also currently serves as a Mentor for RTS Jackson’s African American Leadership Initiative.
