Dr. James Hurley is Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy and chairman of the department. He is the only member of the faculty with doctoral level qualifications in three fields: New Testament, Theology, and Counseling. He holds a Ph.D. from Cambridge University and another from Florida State University. Dr. Hurley graduated magna cum laude from Harvard with a triple major --biochemistry, economics, and personality psychology. His first book, Man and Woman in Biblical Perspective, was recognized as one of the 10 Best  Evangelical Books of the Year and has become a touchstone volume regarding role relationships for men and women in the church.  Dr. Hurley teaches regularly in churches and frequently conducts marriage seminars.  He is presently developing a biblically-based, neuroscience informed protocol for couple therapy.  Dr. Hurley has been involved in Prison Fellowship, the Sexual Abuse Coalition, and served on the board of Mt. Salus Christian School.  He is a clinical fellow and approved clinical supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and a practicing professional therapist. He has served  the Mississippi Association for Marriage and Family Therapy as President, as legislative chair and as board member.  He has also served as a board member of the Pastoral Counseling Institute.
