Dr. Robert Orner joined RTS-Orlando in 2010 and serves as Dean of Students, Director of Field Education and Guest Lecturer in practical theology. As Dean of Students, Dr. Orner oversees the Student Life Department, which promotes spiritual and community life on campus. His other roles focus on helping future pastors develop biblically grounded and culturally intelligent approaches to ministry and practical pastoral skills. Dr. Orner teaches preaching labs, electives on multicultural ministry and a field education seminar where students discuss their current ministry endeavors.
As the child of career missionaries in East Africa, Dr. Orner developed close friendships with people of African, Arabic, Asian, Australian and European decent. This experience fostered a love and appreciation for cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity. God used this story to develop a passion to equip diverse and culturally-aware spiritual leaders for the global community. Dr. Orner's enthusiasm for multicultural ministry is reflected in his Doctor of Ministry thesis completed at RTS-Orlando, which proposed a strategy for the Presbyterian Church in America to improve its ministry to those outside the non-Hispanic white majority.
Dr. Orner is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America and has served in pastoral roles for more than 25 years. He helped start several church planting networks and was a founding member of the North Georgia New Church Network. Dr. Orner continues to serve as a part-time church planting coach, ministry consultant and trainer.
Dr. Orner and his wife, Chris, have been married for more than 25 years and have one adult son. Dr. Orner enjoys time with family, good coffee, and old Land Rovers.
