Master of Divinity Program
ApologeticsAs Christians we are always to be ready to give an answer or defense to those who ask regarding our faith in Christ. Such is the admonition found in 1 Peter 3:15 and this provides the focus of apologetics. The preparation that is needed to make us “ready” includes a proper foundation in and a consistent application of the truths which are in Christ. Courses in apologetics are designed to introduce the student to the biblical basis for apologetics and to the implications this foundation has for our engagement with unbelief. We study both the history of apologetics as well as the complexities associated with the apologetic enterprise in our contemporary culture…one which can be best characterized as an ‘age of normal nihilism’. A primary consideration is the role of presuppositions and the issue of “antithesis” in the highly charged and pluralistic environment of Western societies and cultures.
