Master of Divinity Program
The goal of pastoral ministry is to glorify God by the proclamation and application of his Word. The New Testament department plays a crucial role in preparation for that ministry by emphasizing the redemptive-historical unity of the Bible, its christocentric focus, and its application to the Church and the world. The Gospels proclaim the coming of God’s promised Savior, the Epistles interpret and apply his person and work, and the Revelation reminds us of God’s sovereign rule of the universe and of Christ’s sure return.
A key component in the New Testament department is the study of Greek. Since every translation involves interpretation by the translators and many significant nuances cannot be brought out in a translation, it is important that a minister of the Word be able to consult the original language in which God gave the text. While not everyone will have the same proficiency, a basic working knowledge of Greek will enrich one’s understanding and proclamation of the New Testament.
