RTS Student Cabinet
RTS Student Cabinet President: Jonathan Kiel
Genesis 4:17-26 17 Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. When he built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech. 19 And Lamech took two wives. The name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 20 Adah bore Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe. 22 Zillah also bore Tubal-cain; he was the forger of all instruments of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah... 25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and called his name Seth, for she said, "God has appointed for me another offspring instead of Abel, for Cain killed him." 26 To Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time people began to call upon the name of the Lord.
Cain's line didn't tarry or waste time subduing and filling God's good creation. Moses' genealogy details the fecundity and mastery of the descendents of Adam's firstborn son. Sadly, the dominion over the creation by Cain's posterity developed from a deep, internal desire for their own glory and honor. This longing escalated to supreme vanity in Lamech, who, by killing both man and boy, openly attempted to usurp God's place as the Giver and Taker of life.
Moses presents Seth's descendents as quite different from Cain's progeny. Like his older brother, Seth produces a son and many generations. Yet, in striking contrast to his sibling's offspring, Moses characterizes Seth's line as humble and righteous worshippers of the true God. The only exploits recorded for Seth's progeny relate directly to the service of the living God. The genealogy culminates with Noah and a cry for salvation by the hands of the only one able to provide relief.
Surely Seth's line performed memorable feats of artistry and craftsmanship, similar in splendor to Cain's offspring. Yet Moses neglects to mention those details because Seth's seed can be remembered for something greater: performing all their actions in the worship and service of the true God!
Okay, so what does this have to do with the student cabinet? Well, put simply…everything! The student body at RTS is fundamentally a community of worshippers, calling on the name of the Lord and giving Him the glory and honor due His name. Therefore, while the student cabinet seeks to enhance the RTS community by organizing edificatory activities to promote community, facilitating creativity in academia and thought, and acting as a conduit between students and administration, it performs these exploits in a worshipful manner for the glory of God, the uplifting of His children, and as a witness to the lost.
Please feel free to seek out any representative or officer of the cabinet to ask questions about the community, offer suggestions, or simply chat. The cabinet exists in order that the RTS community might be remembered as a body of believers bent on worshipping and glorifying God alone!

In addition to representing you and giving you a voice to RTS, the Student Cabinet also plans Student Life events that will establish a strong fabric of community. This year's Cabinet has decided to front load events in order to establish community before everyone retreats into hermit/monk mode around midterms when community tends to be reduced to status updates on Facebook.
