One School One Book
The Concept
The One School, One Book program exists to cultivate greater community life at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando by encouraging students, spouses, staff, and faculty to read and reflect collectively on a chosen book.
Each fall, the library staff chooses a stimulating and thought-provoking book that is relatively hot off the press, and it encourages the entire RTS/O community to read the book during the semester. The One School, One Book program culminates with a visit by the author in early November.
The 2008 Book: A Secular Faith by Darryl Hart
The RTS/Orlando library is pleased to announce that the 2008 One School, One Book selection is A Secular Faith by Darryl Hart. In this book, Hart analyzes the widening gap between religious and secular America throughout the past quarter century and presents a faith-based argument for the separation of church and state. He suggests that the notion of "Christian politics" is inappropriate for a religiously diverse society and that it fundamentally misconstrues the meaning of the Christian religion. The library hopes that the RTS/O community will find this book especially appropriate for an election year. In fact, Darryl Hart will visit our campus on Thursday, November 6, 2008, only two days after Election Day.
