Dr. Michael A. Milton accepted the call to become President and Professor of Practical Theology of Reformed Theological Seminary, Charlotte in December, 2007. He began his duties in February 2008. Dr. Milton assumed the presidency of RTS Charlotte after serving as Senior Pastor of the historic First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga. He was the 12th pastor there in 173 years and conducted a ministry that included a radio and television ministry called Faith for Living. The multi media ministry continues at RTS as The Call with Mike Milton.
Prior to answering the call as President, RTS Charlotte, Dr. Milton served sixteen years in the business world (Dow Chemical and Ashland Chemical) and was also a top secret Navy linguist. He interned under D. James Kennedy at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church and after seminary planted two churches: Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Overland Park, Kansas; and Kirk O’ the Isles Church in Savannah, Georgia. He also founded Westminster Academy Christian School in Overland Park and was the administrative head and an adjunct professor in practical theology at Knox Theological Seminary. A graduate of Mid America Nazarene University (Kansas) and Knox Theological Seminary, in 1998 he earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in theology and religious studies from The University of Wales (UK). Dr. Milton's personal story of moving from orphan and prodigal son to understanding God's grace and receiving His adoption through Jesus Christ forms a frequent motif for offering Christ's healing to a broken generation. Often his sermons are illustrated with songs that he writes, sings, and performs with guitar. In addition to his pastoral work, Dr. Milton holds a commission in the US Army Reserves as a chaplain, a ministry that he continues. Serving on several boards and active in a number of civic organizations, he also remains involved in preaching and teaching in churches, conferences, and seminaries. Dr. and Mrs. Milton and their son reside in the Charlotte area. |
