Ten Things I am Thankful for this Thanksgiving | Scott Swain

President Scott Swain reflects on ten things he's thankful for this year at RTS Orlando.

Our supervisor of maintenance, Gary Miller. Gary has faithfully served our campus for 15 years.

Drs. Jason Duesing, Julius Kim, Dan Treier, and Kevin Vanhoozer—old friends who, along with other academic delegates, traveled across the country to participate in my inauguration in September.

Dr. Nicholas Reid, our newest faculty member. Along with his wonderful family, Nick brings to RTS Orlando specialized expertise in Ancient Near Eastern languages and literature and a heart for serving the church.

Our 2017 Vision Dinner Sponsors: The Collaborative, Bob and Katherine Davis, Casey and Jenn DeLoach, Arthur and Beverly Evans, The Heart of the City Foundation, Bob and Marjean Ingram, Refinement Ministries, Rugby Cleaning, and Westbrook Services. These partners made it possible for us to celebrate RTS Orlando’s past and to look with expectancy to the future. The evening raised over $90,000 toward student scholarships.

Tokyo Tapas—my favorite lunch spot in Oviedo.

The opportunity to visit with alums who drop by the campus (often with babies in tow!), including, most recently, Rob and Elizabeth McAdams, Georgie and Mark Wallace, Katy Becker Benoit.

Hannah Brandenburg, Jennie Campa, and Cheryl Mendes-Ellis, all students in our MDiv program. The church needs more women like these with solid theological preparation.

The recent publication of Dr. Michael Allen’s book, Sanctification. I believe it’s the most significant doctrinal treatment of this topic since that of G. C. Berkouwer.

Mountain Dew. The seminary couldn’t run without Dave Veldkamp and Dave Veldkamp couldn’t run without Mountain Dew.

Ceci Helm. Ceci, who has served as assistant to the dean and coordinator of instructional computing at RTS Orlando for 17 years, recently announced her retirement. Over the years, she has provided an example of Christ-like service, professionalism, and hospitality to the seminary’s faculty, staff, and students. We will miss her very much!
