From Embers to a Flame, RTS Jackson, September 10-12 - Jackson Campus

RTS Jackson will host Embers to a Flame, a conference on nurturing church vitality, on September 10-12. The conference focuses on church health and revitalization and is open to pastors and lay leaders. Dr. Harry Reeder, Senior Pastor of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham and Rev. Lynn Downing, Pastor of Church Revitalization at Briarwood, will be speaking.

Learn what damages couples and how to help them change.

Pastors counsel couples! Here is a chance to gain effective skills for your ministry.
Ephesians 4:28 and 29 tells us to move away from destructive words to constructive words and useful behaviors that will build others up. John Gottman is an orthodox Jew who has spent the last 40 years researching what is destructive or constructive for marriages. Indeed, the set of (godly) ways of interacting he has identified predict with over 90% accuracy whether a marriage will be a continuing satisfying relationship or whether it will fail. His findings can help pastors focus couples on crucial areas and promote godly change in them.

The MFTC program will conduct a training program this fall for MDIV and MFTC students to teach them about John Gottman's findings and methods.  The training includes 12 hours of video, discussion and a 300 page manual for each participant. Although the training normally costs about $250, it is available to RTS students, faculty and alumni for $99 (60% discount). Training will happen over two Fridays: September 11, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM; September 25, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Rev. Dr. Joel R. Beeke is president and professor of systematic theology and homiletics at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, a pastor of the Heritage Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Grand Rapids, Michigan, editor of The Banner of Sovereign Grace Truth, editorial director of Reformation Heritage Books, president of Inheritance Publishers, and vice-president of the Dutch Reformed Translation Society. He has written, co-authored, or edited sixty books, and contributed fifteen hundred articles to Reformed books, journals, periodicals, and encyclopedias. His Ph.D. is in Reformation and Post-Reformation theology from Westminster Theological Seminary. He is frequently called upon to lecture at seminaries and to speak at Reformed conferences around the world. He and his wife Mary have been blessed with three children: Calvin, Esther, and Lydia.
