The Westminster Confession of Faith is a summary of the bible's teaching written in the seventeenth century. It was accepted by the Presbyterian Church in the United States as its standard of doctrine at its General Assembly in 1789. The Westminster Confession of Faith outlines doctrine on The Holy Scriptures, The Trinity, Creation, The Fall of Man, Free will, Election, The Law of God, God’s Eternal Decree, Assurance of Grace and Salvation, Good Works, and many other doctrines. Missiology is the study of Christian mission. The study of Christian mission is intended to make the student more effective in presenting the Gospel both to his own culture and to cultures around the globe. Our focus on Christian mission begins with the Great Commission. Jesus Christ commands the Church to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations. The study of missiology strives to integrate insights from the exegesis of the bible, communications theory, Christian apologetics, history, and other disciplines to help the student become effective in obeying the command of Jesus Christ. Missiology can be an important tool for the Christian missionary.

Reformed Theological Seminary serves the Church in all branches of evangelical Christianity, especially the Presbyterian and Reformed family, by training its leaders, with a priority on pastors, missionaries, Christian teachers, and Christian counselors. Degree and certificate programs for every educational need are offered at Reformed Theological Seminary. These are characterized by biblical fidelity, confessional integrity, academic excellence, and commitment to the spiritual growth of students. The faculty and staff at Reformed Theological Seminary hold to the Westminster Confession of Faith, but the seminary welcomes brothers and sisters in Christ from all evangelical denominations and Christian organizations. Significant differences in views concerning doctrine, missions, and evangelism are infrequent and not an obstacle to study at RTS. Reformed Theological Seminary is free from control of one particular denomination.

Reformed theology is summarized in five basic doctrines: Soli Deo Gloria – we believe all of life is to be lived for the glory of God; Solus Christus – Reformed theology teaches that Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and man; Sola Scriptura – we believe the scriptures alone are the only infallible authority for the church; Sola Gratia (Grace Alone) – Reformed theology teaches that salvation is based entirely on God’s grace not on the works of man; and Sola Fide (Faith Alone) – we believe that the justification before God is a one-time event that takes place through faith alone. These are the basic tenets for reformed theology.

Our online seminary offers a refreshing new outlook on pursuing a career in ministry. We provide both academic and practical training for ministry so our graduates can help fulfill the Great Commission: “And He said to them, ‘Go into the entire world and preach the gospel to every creature.’”, Mark 16:15. As an online seminary we offer distance education through our online classroom. You can obtain an accredited online seminary degree from RTS with only two on-campus visits, making it possible for you to maintain your current commitments to family and ministry. Attending a traditional school cost the extra travel and time away from your family, but an online seminary gives you flexibility.

We are a grace theological seminary. RTS believes in the doctrine of Sola Gratia (Grace Alone). As a grace theological seminary our belief is that the entirety of salvation is God’s gracious gift through Jesus Christ. We desire to produce graduates who can winsomely share that belief with a lost and dying world. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast” (Eph. 2:8-9). This verse is part of the foundation for a grace theological seminary in which the people of Reformed Theological Seminary believe.

"Reformed" means that the seminary's teaching is in line with the beliefs that characterized the Protestant Reformation. Such leaders as John Calvin and Ulrich Zwingli are identified as reformers of the 16th century Christian church. Our Reformed beliefs can be summarized by five basic doctrines commonly called the five solas: Soli Deo Gloria, Solus Christus, Sola Scriptura, Sola Gratia, and Sola Fide. Each teaches against false teachings in the Roman Catholic Church and returns believers to the true gospel. Reformed Christians believe in the sovereignty of God and the necessity of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible provides the foundation for a Christian worldview in Reformed theology and practice.

Bible scripture is one of our basic topics of study here at Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS). The doctrine of Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone) basically states that the Bible scripture alone is the only infallible rule for the church. The apostle Paul told Timothy, “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Tim. 3:16). In line with this verse, we affirm that the original manuscripts of Bible scripture are the inspired Word of God, without error. The original manuscripts of Bible scripture are the measuring stick that we use at Reformed Theological Seminary for our faith and life. Inerrancy of Bible scripture is a basic tenet for the faculty of RTS.

Jesus Christ is the very foundation of all Christian beliefs and doctrines. The son of God came as the messiah to extend God’s gracious gift of salvation to the world. Jesus Christ is the solid rock on which we base all of RTS Virtual Campus curriculum. Without Him in our classes, we would be unable to educate and equip our brothers and sisters in Christ to lead, minister, educate or counsel others. We exist to glorify God by extending the Kingdom of Jesus Christ over all individual lives through all areas of society and in all nations and cultures. The purpose of this seminary is to train those who will go and teach others about the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

Biblical theology is an approach to understanding the Scripture of the Bible organized by the context in which the inspired authors originally wrote. Old Testament biblical theology investigates the teaching of the Hebrew bible as God progressively revealed truth. There is an emphasis on how the revelation of the Word of God over time parallels the acts of God in the developing covenant of grace. New Testament biblical theology deals with a much shorter period of time. The emphasis in New Testament studies is on the Holy Spirit's use of the different perspectives of the human authors of Scripture to reveal a coherent whole. All of the bible exegesis courses at RTS will expose you to using biblical theology to understand the history of redemption.

Christian doctrine is similar and different from denomination to denomination. At RTS Virtual Campus, the basic principles are belief in the sovereignty of God, and the endurance of the Word of God as the sole authority for Christian living. Most Christian doctrine is founded on Biblical Scriptures that support them, and we educate believers in the Word, and interpretation of the Word in order to identify the foundations of Christian doctrine. The reformed church has five distinctive beliefs: Soli Deo Gloria, Solus Christus, Sola Scriptura, Sola Gratia and Sola Fide. We exist to glorify God by extending the Kingdom of Jesus Christ over all individual lives through all areas of society, especially education. This is a basic tenet of the Reformed Christian doctrine.

Biblical Hermeneutics at RTS Virtual Campus is loosely defined as the ability or principles behind interpretation of the scriptures. We educate our students on the history of the church with foundational classes for the degree program, Master of Arts (Religion). These classes are fundamental for a good foundation in theology and apologetics. The classes on the history of the church are essential for the General studies, historical studies, missions, and theological studies certificate programs. One of the best ways to view ancient interpretation of the Word is through courses on the history of the church at Reformed Theological Seminary, Virtual Campus.

Covenant theology stresses that God alone accomplished the salvation of His people through a single Covenant of Grace. We exist to glorify God by extending the Kingdom of Jesus Christ over all individual lives through all areas of society. The Covenant theology we teach represents the relationship between God and His redeemed people unfolded in stages throughout the Biblical Scriptures and human history. Believers before Christ’s incarnation looked ahead to the salvation coming in Christ, and the New testament believers look back at the redemption completed in Christ’s death and resurrection. The Covenant of Grace in Christ has always been the only divinely ordained plan for salvation from sin. This is the heart of covenant theology. RTS Virtual offers a course on covenant theology by Dr. Ligon Duncan.

Every Christian should seek to have a Christian worldview. As R.C. Sproul, founder of Ligonier Ministries and former professor of systematic theology at Reformed Theological Seminary often reminds people, God command us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Forming a Christian worldview is a process of repenting of false beliefs and beginning to believe biblical truth. A Christian worldview should impact how the believer views God, his neighbour, art, government, science, and even the nature of truth itself. The current controversies in the Western world have been described as a "culture war". At the root of the conflict is a dispute between the Christian worldview and competing systems of belief. Online seminary courses at RTS will help you build a consistently Christian worldview.
