Overview

What?

Teaching Women to Teach resources the local church by providing theological training to women who are teaching or who aspire to teach the Bible in women’s ministries. We seek to train women from our constituent churches so that theological conversation and discipleship in women’s ministry can happen in the context of relationships, in accord with Reformed teaching, and under the authority of a particular church’s leadership.

Why?

Christian women are increasingly looking to nationally known figures to fill teaching roles in local congregations by using mass produced curriculum. Rather than being taught and discipled by gifted and trained women in their own local church, women in our community are being taught and discipled by DVDs. Many women’s ministries in Reformed churches are using material whose teaching is at odds with historic Reformed doctrines.

When?

We will meet one Monday night a month (excluding summer) from 7:00pm – 9:00pm. Meeting dates for 2018 are the following:

Where?

Our first four meetings will take place at Orangewood Presbyterian Church (1300 Maitland Blvd, Maitland, FL 32751).

Who?

We want to serve any woman who currently teaches or aspires to teach the Bible in a local congregation. Leading this RTS initiative are Leigh Swanson, RTS Orlando’s Vice President of Community Relations and Christy Gambrell, Director of Women’s Ministry at Orangewood. Classes will be taught by RTS faculty with area women’s ministry leaders. For more information contact Leigh Swanson at lswanson@rts.edu.


Registration Information:

Registration is $50 and includes fees and materials. Space is limited. Registration will close January 12th, 2018 or when we reach max capacity.


Teaching Women to Teach Steering Committee:


Shannon Basso is the founder of BECOMING, a study resource that disciples women with rich theology in a beautiful print publication. Shannon is married to Justin and they have three children ages 9, 8, and 6. The Bassos are members of First Presbyterian Church.

Sarah Bruner is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Communications. She currently serves her church, NewCity, in a leadership capacity where she finds joy in loving and serving the women of the church. She is married to Stephen and they have four young children.

Jessica Eggleston received her MA in Theological Studies from RTS in 2006. Currently on sabbatical from her high school teaching career, Jessica is a stay-at-home mom to 2 children and is married to William Eggleston, a Latin instructor. She is a member of Reformation OPC in Oviedo.

Christy Gambrell received MAs in both Exegetical Theology and Counseling from Covenant Seminary in 2013. She now serves as the Director of Women's Ministry at Orangewood Church, PCA, in Maitland, FL. She is married to Dave, a pastor at Orangewood, and they have the cutest son in the world, Knox.

Becky Martinez has a JD from the University of Florida. She is married to Ralph and has 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren. Becky serves on the Board of Governors of The Geneva School and is a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Lori Pedonti is a founding member of Christ United Fellowship.  She and her husband, Ron, own and operate a design firm practicing landscape architecture and commercial interior design.  They are parents of three grown sons and grandparents of a beautiful baby girl.

Leigh Swanson earned an MA (Theological Studies) from RTS Orlando in 2012 and now serves as the Vice President of Community Relations. In addition to her role at RTS, she serves on the National Leadership Team of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Leigh is married to David Swanson, Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, and they have 3 adult children.

Sarah Viggiano Wright earned an MDiv and a MAC from Covenant Theological Seminary in 2012. She speaks on a variety of issues with Biblical, theological and psychological integration. Sarah is married to Lee, who serves as the director of Reformed University Fellowship at UCF, and they have 3 young children. The Wrights attend Willow Creek Church.
