Orlando Master of Arts in Counseling Application Process
Thank you for your interest in RTS Orlando! The application process can be overwhelming. Our goal is to keep you well informed prior to and throughout your application process. The information below is intended to walk you through the process one step at a time. We hope you find it helpful.
Due to the nature of the Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC) program, the application process has some additional elements that are not included in the admission of our other degree programs. For instance, two years of post-university life experience is one of the prerequisites for all applicants to the MAC program. Also, the qualified applicant has received some counseling from a certified counselor or psychologist. Another unique aspect of the MAC program is that there are application deadlines. The Application deadline for the First Review Weekend (February 21-22, 2014) is January 2, 2014. All applications completed on or before January 2, 2014 will be considered for invitation to the First Review Weekend. All applications completed on or before February 1, 2014 will be considered for invitation to the Second Review Weekend (March 7-8, 2014). Final acceptance letters will be mailed out.

The MAC application process is distinct from other RTS Orlando degree programs. There are two application deadlines: January 2, 2014 and February 1, 2014. The Application deadline for the First Review Weekend (February 21-22, 2014) is January 2, 2014. All applications completed on or before January 2, 2014 will be considered for invitation to the First Review Weekend. All applications completed on or before February 1, 2014 will be considered for invitation to the Second Review Weekend (March 7-8, 2014). We recommend your entire application be turned in by the January deadline.
MAC applicants are required to complete the MAC Addendum (see the last page of the application form) in place of the other essays required by RTS. These essay questions will not only provide the Admissions Committee with important information about you as a prospective student, but they will also demonstrate your writing ability. Please enclose the appropriate application fee and a recent photograph before mailing.
You are responsible for ensuring your transcripts are mailed to RTS. You can do this by requesting an official transcript from each college or university you have attended even if posted on subsequent transcripts. You should specifically request that the transcripts be sent directly to the Admissions Office at email@example.com.
For degree programs, Reformed Theological Seminary requires references from a former professor, your pastor, and a friend. If you completed your most recent degree more than five years ago, you may submit a second general reference in place of the academic reference. Only a pastoral reference is required for the Special Student category. If you are not using the on-line admission application, please give the appropriate reference form and a return envelope to those from whom you are requesting references. The persons completing the forms should mail references directly to the Admissions office. RTS strongly recommends that applicants use the on-line application. Upon submission of the on-line application, our system directs the reference forms electronically to the references' email addresses indicated on the application. RTS would advise applicants to be aware of the status of references, as you are relying on your references to complete the form and submit it to us. Ultimately, the applicant is the responsible party for the securing and submission of proper references.
Applicants for whom English is a second language must submit a TOEFL score of not less than 550 for the Master of Arts and Master of Divinity degree programs, and not less than 575 for the Master of Theology and Doctor of Missiology degree programs. When applicable, international students with TOEFL scores greater than 550, but less than 600, shall attend an RTS Summer language and orientation program before beginning their program of academic study in the Fall term.
International applicants must also provide an educational history as well as documentation of financial support by submitting the International Student Application Supplement. International students who plan to apply for financial assistance from RTS should begin the application process at least 18 months before their intended Fall term of enrollment.
The Review Weekend is the more personal aspect of the application process for the MAC program and is by invitation only. When the application is complete and meets the standards of the MAC Admissions Committee, the applicant will be invited to a Review Weekend at RTS. The weekend is designed for the applicant and the MAC program to become more acquainted with one another. The MAC faculty have a chance to interview each applicant individually and in a group setting. Applicants have the opportunity to see the campus, the clinic, and ask questions of current students and staff.
Before submitting your Application to RTS, ensure you have included all of the appropriate transcripts and references. The following is a complete list of requirements:

Upon receipt of the application form and fee, any previously received application materials are collated, and an individualized file is assembled. At that time, written notification of outstanding application materials is sent to the applicant. No further written notification will be sent. Thereafter, the applicant is encouraged to follow-up periodically on the status of their application by contacting the Admissions office and, if need be, their references and educational institutions.
Every RTS Orlando degree program, except the MAC program, has a rolling admissions policy. MAC program applicants must submit there application materials by one of two deadlines (see above). We highly recommend you turn in all application materials by January 2, 2014. After being invited to one of the two Review Weekends, the MAC Admissions Committee begins their assessment. All candidates should receive notification by letter regarding admission.
Upon receipt of a letter of admission, a letter of intent to register should be forwarded to the Admissions office along with a non-refundable tuition deposit (see tuition and fee schedule for tuition deposit costs). The tuition deposit will be applied toward your first term’s tuition costs and will hold your place in the incoming class.
