RTS Washington Announces Dr. Thomas Keene as Professor of New Testament

Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) is pleased to announce Dr. Thomas Keene has been appointed to the position of associate professor of New Testament at the Washington, D.C., campus.

“I am thrilled by the appointment of Dr. Keene as the newest member of our growing faculty serving in the Washington, D.C. area,” said Dr. Scott Redd, the president of RTS Washington. “He represents everything we hope for our students: a commitment to rigorous theological scholarship matched by a passion for Christian ministry and service.”

Dr. Keene has served as the associate pastor of family ministries at Christ the King (Presbyterian Church in America) in Conshohocken, Penn. Keene has served as a Lecturer in New Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary, and he has also taught numerous courses at Westminster Theological Seminary since 2006.

“The Lord has sent just the right person to our learning community,” said Dr. Howard Griffith, the academic dean of RTS Washington. “I could not be more thankful. Dr. Keene is an excellent interpreter of Scripture, a fine theologian, and an experienced gospel minister. His classes as a visiting professor have been prized. Even more of our students, under his ministry, will learn and communicate the New Testament message with confidence, joy, and precision.”

Keene received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Computer Science from Furman University in 2002. He then received his M.Div. from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia in 2005 and went on to earn his Ph.D. in New Testament in 2010, focusing on the tabernacle metaphor in the Epistle to the Hebrews.

In the area of scholarly research, Keene’s interests include biblical hermeneutics and typology, metaphor theory, and discourse analysis. Among other writings, he has contributed to The Illustrated Bible Dictionary (Baker Academic) and Issues in Luke-Acts (Gorgias Press).

Tommy grew up in Dallas, Texas. He met his wife Sarah in college at Furman University, and they have been happily married since 2002. Sarah is an accomplished photographer, and they have two daughters.

Tommy will be officially joining the RTS Washington faculty June 1, 2018.
