Master of Divinity: Now Available in Houston

It is with great pleasure that we can announce RTS Houston has been approved and accredited to expand its degree offering with the Master of Divinity (MDiv). We will be offering courses in fulfillment of the degree starting in January 2018. This 106-hour degree is a rigorous program of study in three fundamental areas — Bible, systematic theology, and practical theology.

It's coupled with 400 hours of field education (pastoral, missionary, campus ministry internship, or similar ministries where students are given opportunities to exercise and improve their gifts and skills with firsthand experience in the service to which God has called them).

Structure

Bible courses include the basic content of each book of the Bible along with a detailed study of major characters, dates, and places as are necessary. Principles of hermeneutics and exegesis, using the original languages as well as the English Bible are also included so that students will learn to apply Scripture in a contemporary context.

Building upon a biblical foundation, theology is a significant area of focus. Operating from the perspective that the Bible is God’s revelation about Himself in things necessary for man’s salvation, this program of study equips students with the foundation to understand, articulate, and live, the Christian faith.

Practical theology courses are designed to enable students to develop competence in ministry including preaching, worship, leadership, and individual shepherding. A variety of experiences and instruction would allow students to develop methods and styles of ministry suited to their unique gifts.
