On Tuesday, August 23, RTS Jackson welcomed over 40 new students at Orientation. This year we have new students from AL, CA, FL, IL, KY, LA, MI, MO, MS, NC, OH, TN, TX, VA, and DC, and internationally from Brazil, Canada, China, Liberia, Moldova, and Scotland.
Students come from all walks of life. This year we had a former NFL player, a veterinary surgeon, and a pastor who has pastored for 15 years. Two of our students are spouses of RTS Jackson graduates and one is the daughter of an RTS Jackson graduate. Half of the new students are single and half are married. Half of the married students have kids, and the families with kids tend to have a lot of kids.
The new students represent a wide variety of denominations including Anglican, Baptist, Baptist, Baptist General Conference, Southern Baptist, Missionary Baptist, EPC, non-denominational, and the largest group is PCA. They have served the church as Ruling Elders, Deacons, Pastors, Sunday School Teachers, Youth Leaders, Women’s Ministry Leaders, and Small Group Leaders.
This is truly a unique incoming class.
Orientation was a full day that included addresses from Brian Gault (Director of Admissions), Guy Richardson (President), Ligon Duncan (Chancellor), and Miles Van Pelt (Academic Dean). The new students met the staff, had lunch with faculty, heard advice from students, and had introductions both to the campus and to their particular program. The day concluded with dessert at President Guy Richardson’s house.
